Being Salt & Light without Burning or Blinding People

Apologetics is the art of giving an answer or a reasoned defense for the hope that we have in Christ Jesus.

This January, WEFC will be offering a class called, “Being Salt and Light without Burning or Blinding People.”

This class will provide a starting point for being equipped in communicating the truth of Jesus Christ to people, with the aim of not becoming overly emotional, or paralyzed with fear.

Some of the topics that will be covered are:
*Jesus as the Lord and Master of our hearts
       *Truly listening to others.
*Answer the person, not merely his question
*Hidden assumptions in the objections to Christianity.
       *Practical application

The word apologetics is being used more and more in the church these days. This word comes from the Greek word “apologia” which means to give an answer, or a reasoned defense. It’s used several places in the Bible, but most famously in 1 Peter 3:15.

“But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.”

For many years I did not do that last part very well. There have been times when I’ve had opportunities to share Jesus with someone, and said nothing because of fear or anxiety. Then there were other times when I engaged with people about Jesus and I became emotionally escalated.

So, the Lord moved my heart and mind to study the concepts of apologetics, such as answering objections to Christianity, understanding that the Biblical worldview is the most logical and reasonable of all the worldviews, and learning how to better communicate these things with compassion, gentleness, and respect, as well as learning many other skills.

After several years of my own study and putting it into practice communicating with many of my secular clients, I discovered the RZIM Academy, which is comprised of online apologetics classes created by Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM). I now serve part time as one of their moderators for these classes. In this role I lead the students through the course material.

Come join me as we study to show ourselves as workmen who have been approved by God. The class will start on January 12th and run for ten weeks. You can register here.
