    Psalms of Encouragement

IT LOOKS LIKE we are about to safely cross from 2020 into 2021, but it doesn’t mean all our troubles from this past year will vanish and disappear.  Quite the contrary.  As Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:34, “Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”  In other words, each day – or shall we say, “each year” - has its own troubles and difficulties that concern us.

The year 2021 will have its own stories of trouble to record.  Consequently, we can always use some encouragement to help us along the way.

That is the beauty of the Psalms.  They are filled with words of encouragement offered in response to the honest cries of those who are discouraged.

When we turn to the Psalms, what do we find as our constant source of encouragement?  We find God!  No matter what it is that we are facing in life, God is “the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in our affliction.”  (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)

We find encouragement in God because . . .

God is our Help – God is Near – God Never Changes – God is Mighty and Gentle

What better way is there to start 2021?  Let us start 2021 by resting in the comfort that comes to us from our good God.
