An Invitation to the Next Congregational Meeting

ON BEHALF OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD AND STAFF, I would like to extend an invitation to all of you to attend the next Congregational Business Meeting, Thursday, April 19th at 7:00 pm.

Why, you may ask, is my attendance important? WEFC adheres to a congregational form of governance. This means that the leadership cannot unilaterally affect recommendations without a vote of approval by the congregation. Decisions about budget and finances, policy changes, filling essential positions, among other things require assent of the congregation through a formal vote.

Our church by-laws require that business cannot be conducted at these meetings without a quorum of members present. The by-laws further state that a quorum requires the presence of 10% of all members. When a quorum is not achieved, as happened this past January, the business of the church cannot be conducted. Critical decisions about finances and policy must be put on hold for several months.

At the upcoming meeting, we will be asking the congregation's approval to provide funding for our Church Planting Residency Program. We will be presenting for approval the first of many changes to the church by-laws. We will be presenting a ballot of individuals to fill positions for the coming year, and we will be voting to approve four new members to the church family. Click here to see the full agenda.

These meetings are open to all. You do not have to be a member to attend a business meeting; however, only members can participate in discussions and voting.

Again, I am extending this invitation. The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 19th at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary. I hope many of you will attend. God bless.
