Advent Sermon Series,11/29-12/27: Hindsight is 20/20

11/25/20 | The Pulse 2020, The Pulse - 2020.48 Issue 48 | by Dr. Scott Solberg

    Hindsight is 20/20

    AS WE DRAW near to the end of 2020, what is it that is now obvious to you that may not have been as obvious before the year began?

    During this Advent Season, we would like to share with you four lessons we are learning as a result of 2020.

    In hindsight, we are learning to...

    • look forward to the God who brings renewal from out of the wilderness
    • look upward to the God who is my strength when I am weak
    • look outward with God’s love when the world is so torn and divided
    • look onward with hope to the day when God will bring peace on earth

    No matter which way we look – forward, upward, outward, onward – we see the same image standing before us. What is more obvious in hindsight than what was obvious before is that at the center of it all stands Jesus.

    To help us consider each of these four lessons, our theme verse will be Isaiah 9:6.

    For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
    and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
    and his name shall be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace

    "The celebration of Advent is possible only to those who are troubled in soul, who know themselves to be poor and imperfect, and who look forward to something greater to come." ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer
